Position Purpose
As the Director for Facilities and Construction, you will assume responsibility for managing all Facilities, Real Estate related activities as well as Construction projects for Holy Cross Hospital, Inc. while being accountable for creating and developing an environment/culture that enables the organization to meet and/or exceed their mission and strategic goals.
Job Description Details:
Job Responsibilities include:
  • Develops and implements operational plans to maintain Holy Cross Facilities while complying with all applicable regulatory requirements and meeting customer expectations. Ensures compliance and achievement of all enterprise standards
  • Ensures that all building systems and equipment are installed and maintained in accordance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards and all other applicable State/Federal/Local regulatory requirements.
  • Serves as lead for regulatory and quality compliance ensuring all state, local and national codes are met and is responsible for any plan of correction required leading up to or following any survey.
  • Responsible for financial performance to include but not limited to: monitoring and controlling resource utilization and expenditures while ensuring adherence to established operating budgets.
  • Directs and manages completion of maintenance and archiving of PM/CM equipment maintenance and testing documentation.
  • Participates and consults with internal Hospital staff with regard to facility planning, design and construction.
  • Forecasts and develops annual facility capital equipment/physical plant project budgets.
  • Conducts periodic inspections of buildings while evaluating the complexity of any needed repairs to ensure resolution for identified problem/issues/concerns.
  • Manages/oversees daily landscape/grounds operations to include but not limited to grounds and parking lot maintenance.
  • Plans and recommends development of physical facilities. Internal procedures are developed and maintained in a departmental manual. Conducts in-service programs to keep staff educated and abreast of procedural changes.
  • Sets priorities for repairs. Calculates and analyzes cost. Schedules repairs in order of importance. Supervisors and staff are trained to understand the priorities of emergency service requests.
  • Prepares department budget. Budget is prepared accurately and submitted on time. Necessary proposals and/or cost calculations are included with justification statements.
  • Establishes, maintains and schedules preventative maintenance services. Develops preventative maintenance program. Assigns schedule to appropriate supervisor and evaluates progress.
  • Establishes procedures to assure adherence to safety and fire regulations and sanitary standards. Current fire and disaster manuals are accessible to staff. Trains employees. Staff is trained in sanitation standards and emphasis is placed on protecting themselves and others.
  • Interprets hospital codes applicable to all agencies of jurisdiction. Maintains necessary library for references. Has a good understanding of the codes and maintains a list of agencies to contact for clarification.
  • Serves on Fire, Safety and Disaster Committees. Membership is active and attendance is good.
  • Advises Administration on structural changes, additions or modifications to the building and plant equipment. Recommendations are made in a timely manner allowing administration adequate time for consideration. Written cost estimations, drawings, samples, etc., are included with recommendations.
  • Inspects plant and utilities for a safe and efficient operation. On-site inspections are made at regular intervals. Recommendations and directions are given to subordinates. Conducts follow-up inspections to evaluate completed work.
  • Supervises emergency and major repairs. Has an understanding of repairs to be made and is available at any time to supervise them. Has appropriate staff available for work.
  • Interviews contractors and analyzes bid. Interviews contractors and adequately determines their ability and integrity in the performance of their duties based on past history and/or other pertinent information. Accurately reviews and compares bids.
  • Responsible for departmental matters pertaining to employment, training, grievances, and terminations. Reviews all performance evaluations and reviews direct subordinates personally. Conducts and arranges training sessions. Supervises grievance procedures. Conducts terminations. Conducts interviews and selects personnel.
  • Supports and implements administrative policies. Administrative policies are always supported with enthusiasm. Implements and administers policies as per their intent.
Job Requirements
  • BS Degree (Engineering Discipline Desired)
  • MBA Preferred
  • CHFM preferred
  • Minimum 5 years Hospital/Healthcare Facilities Management required
  • Joint Commission Survey and CMS Survey Experience at the Hospital level. Fully knowledgeable of activities necessary to produce a state of perpetual readiness at all facilities in the portfolio
  • Strong organizational and management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience leading/managing a large, complex and geographically-dispersed team
  • Strong verbal and written (report) communications skills; superior presentation skills
  • Strong judgment, problem-solving and crisis management
